Shepherd’s Pie or Cottage Pie – what do you call it? Technically, a Shepherd’s Pie is made with lamb and a Cottage Pie with beef. Whatever you want to call them, I love them both. This one is made with beef and a good squeeze of Bomba! XXX and Umami Bomb.

SERVES 6-8
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 yellow onions, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 pounds, ground beef
4 tablespoons Bomba! XXX paste
1 teaspoon Taste #5 Umami Bomb paste
1 cup of beef stock
1 pound potatoes
2 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup milk, warmed
grated nutmeg (optional)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
METHOD
- Preheat over to 350˚F
- Heat olive oil in large pan and sauté the onions for 4-5 minutes until soft and translucent
- Add garlic and cook for another minute
- Add ground beef and cook until browned 6-10 minutes
- Add the Bomba and Umami Bomb pastes and stock and simmer on low for 20 minutes
- Peel all the potatoes
- Cut into 2 inch cubes
- Cook in salted boiling water for 10-12 minutes until fork tender
- Drain potatoes and add the butter
- Mash together while slowly added the warmed milk
- Season to taste
- Spread the ground beef mixture evenly in an ovenproof dish
- Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top of the ground meat
- Bake in the overn for 30 – 40 minutes until golden brown and bubbling
- Remove from oven allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving
