Slow Cooker or Skillet
The most delicious Chili con Carne kicked up by a rich & smoky blend of desert spices, cowboy’s coffee and chipotle chili and a hint of dark chocolate. They will ask for your recipe, just say it's a Taste #5 Secret!
RECIPE
CHEEKY CHILI CON CARNE
INGREDIENTS
1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion (finely chopped)
1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
450g/1lb minced/ground beef
200ml beer or use water
400g/14.5oz can chopped tomatoes
400g/14.5oz can kidney beans, drained & rinsed
½ -1 tsp sugar (optional)
pinch of hot chili powder (optional)
METHOD
STOVE TOP SKILLET
Fry the onions, garlic and minced/ground beef in olive oil until browned.
Stir in paste, add beer or water to deglaze pan.
Add other ingredients (and chili & sugar if using).
Bring to the boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for 25-35 minutes.
SLOW COOKER
Fry the onions, garlic and minced/ground beef in olive oil until browned.
Stir in paste, add beer to deglaze pan then transfer to slow cooker pot.
Add all the other ingredients (and chili if using). Stir well.
Cook on medium for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours
NOTES
If hurried, put everything straight into the slow cooker, however browning the meat does add lots of flavor.
Please ensure food is fully cooked and piping hot throughout before serving.
